MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
tuesday – june 25, 1963
The Board of County Commissioners met in special session in the County Commissioners’ room in the Courthouse at Tavares on Tuesday, June 25, 1963, at two o’clock p.m. for the purpose of awarding the bid for the remodeling of the Lake County Courthouse, with the following present: Vice Chairman Babb; Commrs. Cowart and Livingston; Clerk Owens, Attorney Duncan, Engineer Hays, and Mr. Howell Hopson, Architect. Mr. Theus was absent, and Mr. Duncan said Mr. Dykes would be a little late.
The meeting was called to order by the Vice Chairman.
workmen’s compensation insurance
Clerk Owens stated our workmen’s compensation insurance policy expires July 5, 1963. The agent for the present company wants to know if they should renew same. We advertised for this coverage last year, and this company was the only one who bid. Motion by Commr. Cowart, seconded by Commr. Livingston that the workmen’s compensation coverage be renewed with United States Fidelity & Guaranty Company. Mr. Babb vacated the chair and voted in favor of this motion; WHEREUPON, the motion was carried.
At this time, Chairman Dykes appeared and assumed the chair.
Mr. Hopson said the bids have been reviewed by me, and Val-Rich Construction, Inc. of Orlando was the low bidder, and I recommend that the bid of Val-Rich Construction, Inc. be accepted and that Alternate No. 1 to the specifications be held in abeyance until the boiler is torn down and reassembled.
Mr. Preston Elliott of Val-Rich was present and appeared before the Board. Discussion was held regarding the sub-contractors included in the bid.
On a motion by Commr. Cowart, seconded by Commr. Babb and carried, the base bid of Val-Rich Construction, Inc. in the amount of $457,000 was accepted.
A motion was made by Commr. Livingston, seconded by Commr. Babb that the list of sub-contractors as submitted by Val-Rich Construction, Inc. be accepted. The motion was carried.
Mr. Hopson said his office will prepare the contract and present same to Attorney Duncan for his approval.
