MINUTES OF special MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

 thursday, july 1, 1965

The Board of County Commissioners met in special session in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court in the Courthouse at Tavares on Thursday, July 1, 1965, at 9 o’clock a.m. for the purpose of receiving the report of the Tax Assessor with reference to the assessments for the year 1965 and any other business which might be brought before the Board.

The Meeting was called to order by the Chairman with the following present:  Chairman Livingston; Commrs. Theus, Cowart, Dykes and Babb; Clerk Owens and Tax Assessor Cassady.

The Tax Assessor filed the estimate of the assessed values for the year 1965 as follows:

Countywide non-exempt aggregate value     $284,868,859.00

Countywide aggregate value                          $350,046,729.00

Special District South Lake Hospital            $  97,951,812.00

Northeast Lake County Hospital District      $106,233,555.00

Clerk Owens advised the increased values over 1964 are as follows:

            Countywide non-exempt aggregate value     $7,465,430.00 – 2.69%

            Countywide aggregate value                          $9,468,450.00 – 2.78%

            Special District South Lake Hospital            $2,274,982.00 – 2.377%

            Northeast Lake County Hospital District      $6,277,078.00 – 6.28%

The Clerk further advised the values of the following taxing districts:

            Withlacoochee River Basin                           $   6,170,390.00

            Green Swamp Basin                                       $ 19,723,509.00

            Oklawaha River Basin                                    $241,925,324.00

            Southwest Florida Water Management Dist. $267,819,223.00

On a motion by Commr. Dykes, seconded by Commr. Babb and carried, the valuations as submitted by the Tax Assessor were accepted.

Clerk Owens reported the Workmen’s Compensation insurance expires July 5, 1965, whereupon, a motion was made by Commr. Babb, seconded by Commr. Dykes and carried that the Board waive the policy requiring advertising for bids on insurance and authorized the renewal of the Workmen’s Compensation policy with Lassiter-Ware, premium $12,916.15.

The Board members retired to the County Commissioners’ Room to review the tentative budget for the next fiscal year.

On a motion by Commr. Theus, seconded by Commr. Cowart and carried, the Clerk was authorized to advertise the tentative budget to hear objections and complaints on July 19, 1965.

There being no further business to bring before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
