MINUTES OF special MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

 WEDNESDAY – NOVEMBER 11, 1965

The Board of County Commissioners met in special session in the Commissioners’ Room in the Courthouse at Tavares on Wednesday, November 11, 1965, at 10:00 o’clock A.M. for the purpose of considering applicants for the position of Veterans Service Officer, and any other business which might be brought before the Board.

The meeting was called to order by the Chairman with the following present:  Chairman Livingston; Commrs. Theus, Cowart, Dykes and Babb; and Clerk Owens

On motion of Commr. Theus seconded by Commr. Cowart and carried, the Board approved the employment of J. W. Bryant effective December 1, 1965 at an annual salary of $5100.00, or one week prior to this date if possible.

Bids

On motion of Commr. Cowart seconded by Commr. Theus and carried, the Board authorized the purchase of 1961 Dodge for the sum of $400 from Eustis Dodge, Inc., being trade allowance on bid accepted October 4, 1965 on 1966 Dodge Coronet, making the total price of 1966 Dodge $2,756.78.  1961 Dodge is being retained for use by the right of way agent in lieu of $100 per month travel expense.

On recommendation of the Engineer and on motion of Commr. Cowart seconded by Commr. Dykes and carried, bid was accepted from Eustis Dodge, Inc. submitted on November 8, for one 1966 Dodge D700 Cab and Chassis for the sum of $4,057.00, not including trade-in as advertised.  The Board agreed to keep the old equipment and pay the trade allowance of $200 as specified in bid.  The acceptance also includes “drive-away” charge of 18˘ per mile from truck factory to distributor factory and from distributor factory to Lake County.

On recommendation of the Engineer and on motion of Commr. Theus seconded by Commr. Cowart and carried, bid was accepted from State Tractor & Equipment Company, Inc., submitted on November 8, on one new Etnyre Model BT-RL Asphalt Distributor for the sum of $6,930.00, as this is the only bidder meeting all specifications.  Low bid of Florida Equipment Company was rejected because specifications did not call for steel platform.  Bid of M. D. Moody & Sons, Inc. was rejected because equipment did not include aluminum skirting, operator’s platform and fenders.

On motion of Commr. Theus seconded by Commr. Cowart and carried, the Clerk was authorized to advertise for bids for resurfacing County Roads #1-6008 and #1-5306.  Bids to be received December 13.

There being no further business to bring before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 11:00 o’clock A.M.
