MINUTES OF special MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY – august 21, 1967
The Board of County Commissioners convened in special session in the Commissions’ Room in the Courthouse in Tavares on Monday, August 21, 1967, at 2:00 P.M. for the purpose of receiving report from the Architect relative to necessary repairs to tie beam on the fourth floor of the Courthouse.
The Chairman called the meeting to order with the following present: Commrs. Dykes, Cowart, Livingston, and Babb; Clerk Owens and Deputy Clerk Norma Coven.
Mr. Hopson was present and advised at his request a structural engineer had looked at the beam in question. Had also requested Mr. George Williams, contractor, to look at the beam. It is the consensus of opinion that the steel rod inside the concrete was not welded properly at the time of the construction or for some unknown reason it has broken loose. Mr. Hopson said the only way to find out the trouble is to remove the concrete from around the steel rod and recommended Mr. Williams do the work. He has estimated the cost from $1,200 to $1,400 and will accept the job on a cost plus 15 percent basis. On motion of Commr. Cowart, seconded by Commr. Babb and carried, the Board adopted a resolution declaring the repairs an emergency and authorizing the Architect to proceed on the cost plus 15 percent basis.
Clerk Owens stated the Board might be interested in considering property other than the Wells property for the Health Department Building. Charles E. Holder has contacted the office with reference to three lots he will sell. Mr. Owens also advised he has requested information on two other parcels of land across the railroad tracks.
The Clerk informed the Board Mr. Huffstetler has advised he is ready to close the deal on the fairground property when the abstract of title is completed.
There being no further business to bring before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 2:30 o’clock P.M.
