MINUTES OF special MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

 tuesday – december 26, 1967

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners of Lake County, Florida, met in special session in the Commissioners’ Room in the Courthouse, Tavares, Florida, on Tuesday, December 26, 1967 at 9:00 a.m. for the purpose of considering the feasibility of operating the vehicle inspection stations authorized under Chapter 67-307, and any other business which might be brought before the Board.

Chairman Dykes called the meeting to order with the following members present: Chairman Dykes, Commrs. Theus, Cowart, Livingston and Babb; Clerk Owens and Deputy Clerk Norma Coven. 

Legislation & safety

Chairman Dykes requested the Clerk to read a letter dated December 21, 1967 from Captain C. C. Reynolds, Chief, Motor Vehicle Inspection, relative to approximate cost, number of vehicles registered in Lake County and inspection lanes and personnel required to handle the vehicles.

And further advising that the law provides that the Dept. of Public Safety will train and approve all personnel involved.

Chairman Dykes remarked it is his opinion that Lake County should handle the program.  He has discussed this with the County Attorney and they feel the County owes the public this protection.  Commr. Theus stated he feels the government with all its ramifications is in too many price businesses and that this is an encroachment on private enterprise.

Motion was made by Commr. Cowart that Lake County operate the Vehicle Inspection Stations.  The motion was seconded by Commr. Livingston, whereupon the Chairman called for a roll call vote with members of the Board voting as follows:

            Commissioner Cowart            Yes

            Commissioner Dykes              Yes

            Commissioner Livingston       Yes

            Commissioner Babb                Abstained

Clerk Owens presented letter from Dr. Hall requesting that the two buildings and one tree situated on the property designated for the Health Department Building be removed.  On motion of Commr. Babb, seconded by Commr. Cowart and carried, the Clerk was directed to notify the occupant of the residence to vacate same by March 1, 1968 and to advertise bids for the removal of the buildings in February.  The prisoners will remove the tree.

There being no further business to bring before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 9:30 o’clock A.M.
