MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
june 12, 1972
The Board of County Commissioners of Lake County, Florida, was called into Special Session on Monday, June 12, 1972, at 7:30 o’clock P.M. for the purpose of receiving Executive Order of Suspension signed by Governor Reuben Askew suspending Willis V. McCall, Sheriff of Lake County, Florida, effective 5:00 o’clock P.M. on June 12, 1972.
Said Board did convene in the lobby of the Lake County Courthouse with the following members present: Thomas J. Windram, Chairman; James R. Carson, Jr., C. A. Deems, J. M. Hoskinson. Commr. Kenneth VanAuken was not present. Also in attendance were: Clerk of the Circuit Court, Frank E. Owens; County Attorney, Christopher C. Ford and Deputy Clerk, Norma H. Coven.
Chairman Windram called the emergency meeting to order and announced that in accordance with the Executive Order of Suspension, Mr. McCall has been removed from office and Circuit Judge W. Troy Hall, Jr. has appointed Frank F. Meech to serve as Acting Sheriff during the interim period.
Mr. Meech was present and on advice of the County Attorney, the Board set $200.00 as the temporary bond for Mr. Meech while serving as Acting Sheriff and accepted his personal check to be forwarded to the Secretary of State.
Acting Sheriff Meech announced it is his intention to appoint the following deputies, in addition to nine people who are on leave or on duty elsewhere but who are presently Deputy Sheriffs:

On motion of Commr. Carson, seconded by Commr. Deems and unanimously carried, a temporary recess was called to allow Acting Sheriff Meech to administer the Oath of Deputy Sheriff to the above named individuals.
On his return Mr. Meech said the nine persons not in attendance are:

The Oath will be administered to them on their return to the office. Mr. Meech then asked for approval of all existing bonds on the deputies; whereupon, the bonds on file in the Clerk’s Office bonding the above named as Deputy Sheriffs were approved on motion of Commr. Deems, seconded by Commr. Carson and unanimously carried.
Attorney Ford advised in accordance with Chapter 30.08, Florida Statutes, the names, addresses and voting precincts of each Deputy Sheriff should be on file with the Board.
Acting Sheriff Meech assured the Board members they will be kept well informed with the operation of the Sheriff’s Department. Chairman Windram stated if there are any problems do not hesitate to come to the Board.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 o’clock p.m.
