MINUTES OF special MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MARCH 22, 1973

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners convened in special session on Thursday, March 22, 1973 at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers in the Courthouse, Tavares, Florida, for the purpose of designating in priority order road construction and purchase of right of way for the fiscal years 1973-4 through 1978-9 and any other business which might be brought before the Board.  Board members present were C. A. Deems, Chairman; J. M. Hoskinson; Glenn C. Burhans; James R. Carson, Jr.; and Thomas J. Windram.  Also in attendance were:  James C. Watkins, Clerk of the Circuit Court; Fred M. Harpster, County Engineer; and Norma H. Coven, Deputy Clerk.

roads – state

On a motion by Commr. Carson, seconded by Commr. Windram and unanimously carried, the Board adopted a resolution requesting the Department of Transportation to include in its five-year work program twenty-six primary road projects and eight secondary road projects.

tax assessments

Attorney Ford reported the request from Robert W. Scott, Jr. to the Tax Assessor to allow homestead to his parents, Robert W. Scott, Sr., is premature.  After April 1, 1973, he will be advised by the Assessor the course of action he should follow.

road and bridge department

On a motion by Commr. Carson, seconded by Commr. Burhans and unanimously carried, the Board approved a load of clay to the Minneola School baseball diamond.

accounts allowed

On  the recommendation of the Chairman and on the motion by Commr. Hoskinson, seconded by Commr. Carson and unanimously carried, the Board approved an increase of the power of the lights on the pole at the entrance to the Lake County Fair Grounds from 4400 to 21,000, with an increase in the monthly rate of $3.25 per month.

There being no further business to bring before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 12:15 p.m.
