A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

FEBRUARY 22, 1977

The Board of County Commissioners convened in special session on Tuesday, February 22, 1977, at 2:00 p.m., in the County Commissioners’ Room, Courthouse, Tavares, Florida, for the purpose of reviewing a request for approval of a fireworks display permit.  Present were:  C. A. Deems, Chairman; James R. Carson, Jr.; Thomas J. Windram, and Glenn C. Burhans.  Absent was J. M. Hoskinson.  Others present were:  James C. Watkins, Clerk; Christopher C. Ford, County Attorney; and Sharon Mitchell, Deputy Clerk.

Mr. Dale Smith, City of Orlando, Senior Planner, and E. C. Vickers, individual responsible for fireworks display, appeared before the Board to request permission for a fireworks display at the Wekiva Falls Resort, on Saturday, February 26, 1977, at 9:30 P.M.

On a motion by Commr. Carson, seconded by Commr. Burhans and carried unanimously by those present, the Board adopted a resolution requiring certain restrictions on the fireworks display, making the necessary safety precautions in addition to posting a $500 Bond along with showing proof of liability insurance.

On a motion by Commr. Carson, seconded by Commr. Windram and carried by those present, the Board approved the request of Glenn C. Burhans to live in a mobile home on the same piece of property on which his conventional dwelling is being built.  This is subject to the proper bond being posted and with the understanding that the mobile home will be removed immediately upon the completion of the conventional dwelling or upon the request of the Board of County Commissioners.  Commr. Burhans abstained from the vote because he is the owner.

On a motion by Commr. Windram, seconded by Commr. Burhans and carried unanimously by those present, the Board approved the request of Julius P. Shelton to live in a mobile home on the same piece of property on which his conventional dwelling is being built.  This is subject to the proper bond being posted and with the understanding that the mobile home will be removed immediately upon completion of the conventional dwelling or upon the request of the Board of County Commissioners.

On a motion by Commr. Windram, seconded by Commr. Burhans and carried unanimously by those present, the Board approved the addition of the Mount Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department vehicles to be placed on the County fleet insurance policy, if possible, subject to the premiums, for those vehicles, being paid by the Mount Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department.

On a motion by Commr. Windram, seconded by Commr. Carson and carried unanimously by those present, the Board authorized the Chairman to sign the $500 Bond for the fireworks display at the Wekiva Falls Resort, by Mr. E. C. Vickers.

There being no further business to be brought before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 2:20 P.M.
