The Property Appraisal Adjustment Board met in special session on Thursday, May 25, 1989 at 4:00 p.m., in the Board of County Commissioner's Conference Room, Lake County Courthouse, Tavares, Florida. Members present at the meeting were: Commr. C. W. "Chick" Gregg, Chairman: Commr. Mi chael J. Bakich; Commr. Don Bailey; C. A. "Chip" Deems, Lake County School Board; and Ray Newman, Lake County School Board. Others present were: Ed Havill, Property Appraiser; William Stearn, County Attorney's Office; and Linda Springston, Deputy Clerk.

PETITION- 1989-506-A. C. Janney

Reverend A. C. Janney was present to discuss the request for tax exempt status with the Board.

Mr. Ed Havill, Property Appraiser, informed the members that Reverend Janney was here today because the camp which he operates (Shady Grove Youth Camp) did not file for their 1988 tax exemption, which was under $500,000.00. He stated that the camp is a legitimate religious organization, and that they would like to be granted a tax exempt status or have the assessment for the camp's property reduced.

Mr. Havill informed the Board that reducing the assessment would create problems in assessing surrounding properties, therefore, he recommended granting Reverend Janney a tax exempt status for 1988 and 1989, and for future years, if the property is still being utilized as a religious camp.

Mr. Chip Deems questioned whether there would be any problems with filing late for 1988 and 1989.

Mr. Havill indicated that it would not be a problem, because his office has only to pull the back key numbers to accomplish a late filing.

On a motion by Mr. Deems, seconded by Commr. Bailey and carried unanimously, the Board approved to grant a tax exempt status for 1988 and 1989, Petition 1989-506, A. C. Janney, allowing for late filing.

There being no further business to be brought to the attention of the Board, Commr. Bailey made a motion, which was seconded by Mr. Newman and carried unanimously, the Board adjourned the meeting at 4:lO p.m.
