A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

STATE OF THE COUNTY ADDRESS

OCTOBER 25, 1995

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners met in special session on Wednesday, October 25, 1995, at 6:00 p.m., in the rotunda of the Lake County Administration Building, Tavares, Florida. Commissioners present at the meeting were: Rhonda H. Gerber, Chairman; William "Bill" H. Good, Vice Chairman; G. Richard Swartz, Jr.; Catherine C. Hanson; and Welton G. Cadwell. Others present were: Sanford A. Minkoff, County Attorney; Sue B. Whittle, County Manager; Ava Kronz, BCC Office Manager; and Marlene S. Foran, Deputy Clerk.

There were approximately 200 staff, reporters, and citizens present.

COMMISSIONERS

Commr. Gerber presented opening comments and welcomed those present to the second annual State of the County Address.

Commr. Gerber announced that the Lake County Women's Hall of Fame inductees for 1995 were Ms. Marie Bowden, Ms. Catherine C. Hanson, Ms. Florence M. Hunter, and Ms. Margaret C. Ward. At this time, Commr. Gerber provided a brief narrative of the accomplishments of each individual and presented a plaque to same.

Mr. Everett A. Kelly, State House of Representatives, expressed appreciation to the Lake County Women's Hall of Fame Selection Committee and expressed his admiration of Ms. Florence Hunter for her contributions to County and State government.

At this time, Ms. Margaret Ward presented medallions to Ms. Catherine Hanson and Ms. Florence Hunter.

Commr. Gerber introduced the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Constitutional Officers, and dignitaries that were present in the audience. She noted that those present had been provided an Annual Report to the People of Lake County, and stated that the annual report includes a profile of the Commissioners; a message from the County Manager; descriptions of department projects and accomplishments; and a financial overview.

Commr. Gerber expressed the Board's appreciation to First Union Bank, Barnett Bank of Lake County; Citizens National Bank; Sun Bank; Sprint/United Telephone-Florida; Carroll Fulmer & Company, Inc.; Sumter Election Cooperative, Inc.; Florida Power Corporation; and Silver Springs Citrus Cooperative for sponsoring the event this evening.

At this time, Commr. Gerber presented a progress report on the goals and achievements of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners and briefly discussed the goals for 1995 which included the hiring of a County Attorney and County Manager; budget issues; Economic Development; environmental issues through management of stormwater runoff, and Lake Restoration efforts; Community Outreach; Quality of Life; recreational facilities and activities; rail trail projects; proposed expo center; upgrade of Fire Protection equipment; Emergency Management; funding of Sheriff's operations and corrections facility; and providing a higher level of customer service. She noted that one of the new pumpers for Fire Protection was on display in front of the Administration Building, and she invited those present to inspect the pumper as they leave.

At the conclusion of the State of County Address, Commr. Gerber invited those present to join in refreshments and socializing.
