A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

TOUR OF COUNTY PROPERTY

JANUARY 14, 1999

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners met in special session on Thursday, January 14, 1999, at 8:50 a.m., in front of the Lake County Administration Building, Tavares, Florida. Commissioners present at the meeting were: Welton G. Cadwell, Chairman; Catherine C. Hanson, Vice Chair; Robert A. Pool; Rhonda H. Gerber; and G. Richard Swartz, Jr.. Others present were: Sue Whittle, County Manager; Alvin B. Jackson, Jr., Deputy County Manager; Sanford (Sandy) A. Minkoff, County Attorney; Mike Anderson, Senior Director, Facilities and Capital Improvements; Sharon Farrell, Senior Director, Department of Growth Management; Jim Stivender, Jr., Senior Director, Department of Public Works; Don Post, Senior Director, Department of Solid Waste Management; Fletcher Smith, Senior Director, Department of Community Services; Wendy Taylor, Administrative Supervisor, Board of County Commissioners' Office; Barbara Lehman, Chief Deputy Clerk, County Finance; David Damron, Lake Sentinel; Jerry M. Gutlon, The Daily Commercial; and Neve Papazian, The Daily Sun.

The meeting began at the Lake County Administration Building, Tavares, Florida, and proceeded by bus to the Lake County Fairgrounds in Eustis at 9:15 a.m. Mr. Mike Anderson, Senior Director, Facilities and Capital Improvements, discussed the fairgrounds and the farmer's market with the Board and led the Commission on a tour of the farmer's market. At approximately 10:00 a.m. the Commission left by bus and stopped at the Eustis Community Building, which has recently been renovated, and also viewed the first phase of the new Lake Walk project in Eustis.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. the Commission arrived at the Lake County Solid Waste Facility; at which time, Mr. Don Post, Senior Director, Solid Waste Management, led a tour of the facility. Mr. Jim Stivender, Jr., Senior Director, Department of Public Works, showed the Commission possible sites for vehicle maintenance, mosquito and aquatic plant control, a public works storage area, and the proposed route for the C.R. 448 extension.

The Commission stopped at the site of the proposed Lake Idamere park after leaving the landfill. Mr. Chuck Pula, Special Services/Parks & Recreation Coordinator, joined the group and discussed the park plans with the Commission and discussion was held regarding the future expansion of the Astatula site. There was a consensus of the Board of County Commissioners to have staff look at vacant parcels surrounding the County owned property and to bring information back to the Board. The Board also directed staff to bring the proposed C.R. 448

right-of-way purchase and the possible entire Doeer property purchase back to the Board at a regular meeting for discussion and possible action.

The Commission adjourned for lunch at the Mission Inn, Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The meeting resumed at 1:05 p.m., and the Commission proceeded to the Lake County Welcome Center. Mr. Bruce Duncan, Economic Development Director for Lake County, joined the meeting and led a discussion of the Christopher C. Ford Industrial Park including a park overview and possible expansion plans. The Commission then toured the industrial park.

The meeting proceeded to Tavares and was adjourned at approximately 2:45 p.m.
