A special MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

november 16, 2016

A meeting of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners was advertised for the Lake 100 meeting on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Mission Inn Resort, Howey in the Hills, Florida.  No Commissioners were present at the meeting.  Others present were:  Robert Chandler, Economic Development Director, and Susan Boyajan, Deputy Clerk.

Mr. Chandler gave a presentation to the members in attendance at the Lake 100 meeting about economic trends for Lake County and how they relate to the rest of the region, including wages, infrastructure, workforce, marketing of the area, and the businesses that have come to Lake County as a result of those marketing efforts.  He named some concerns about the limitations within Lake County that are restricting the number of businesses locating to the area, including the lack of an educated workforce and lack of infrastructure.  He requested that the business owners who were present get involved with local education efforts and to be ambassadors for the County.

There was discussion regarding how increased wages would affect local businesses, the efforts of the EDC (Economic Development Commission), how to better train the local workforce for the specific jobs available within the county, and the use and types of incentives the County could use to attract more businesses.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
