MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY commissioners

MONDAY, may 28, 1957

 

The Board of County Commissioners met in special session in the County Commissioners’ Room at 2:30 o’clock PM Tuesday, May 28, for the purpose of considering two telegrams from the State Road Department re:  Road Project No. 1104-153 SR 25 & 500 – drainage North of Leesburg; and Project 1155-150 SR S-449 SR 500 to Silver Lake; and such other matters as may be brought before the Board, with the following present:  Chairman Cowart, Commissioners Singeltary, Hooten, Simpson and Cross, also Clerk Owens.  Chairman Cowart called the Board to order. 

Clerk Owens read a telegram from State Road Department as follows:

“Ryan Construction Company of Tampa Florida is low bidder on Secondary Road Project No. 1104-153 SR 25-500 – drainage North of Leesburg, in the amount of $11,659.15.  Commr. Singeltary stated it was agreed that the State Road Department should pay this and Clerk Owens was authorized to call Mr. Duncan and find out about this before concurring the award.”

 

Clerk Owens read a telegram from State Road Depatment as follows:

“The low bidder on Secondary Road Project No. 1155-150 SR S-449 SR 500 to Silver Lake is J. D. Manly Construction Company of Leesburg, Florida for $39,512.57.  Please advise the wishes of your Board in regard to the contract.”

 

WHEREUPON, on motion of Commr. Singeltary seconded by Commr. Cross and carried, Clerk Owens was authorized to wire the State Road Department that the Board of County Commissioners concurs in the action of the State Road Department in awarding the Contract in the amount of $39,512.57 to J. D. Manly Construction Company of Leesburg, Florida, the low bidder, on Secondary Road Project No. 1155-150 SR S-449, SR 500 to Silver Lake.

Spraying hyacinths in Buck Lake Slew:  After discussion of this matter, Clerk Owens was authorized to call the Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission to spray this with plane.

Commr. Cross stated the Sheriff is crowded for space in his office as well as the jail.  Would like to look into the possibility of adding a wing on to the Courthouse from the Sheriff's Office.

Clerk Owens asked the Commissioners to submit any changes for the budget at the next meeting of the Board.
