MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

on TUESday – SEPTEMBER 19, 1961

The Board of County Commissioners met in special session in the County Commissioners’ room in the Courthouse at Tavares on Tuesday, September 19, 1961 at 9:00  o’clock a.m. for the purpose of adopting the budget for the year 1961-1962, and such other matters as may be brought before the Board, with the following present:  Chairman Theus, Commissioners Cowart, Dykes, Simpson and Babb; also Clerk Owens.  (Attorney Duncan absent.)

The Board was called to order by Chairman Theus.

Clerk Owens announced that this meeting is called for the purpose of adopting the Budget for the year 1961-1962, which I have reviewed in accordance with your instructions.  There is a reduction of approximately 4% in the non-exempt valuation, therefore, the millage had to be increased proportionately.

Motion by Commr. Cowart seconded by Commr. Dykes and carried that the budget, with the changes in the millages as set out above, be adopted as the tentative budget for the year 1961-1962 and that Clerk Owens be authorized to forward same to the Comptroller for approval.

replat of woodland park in section 15-19-24

This Plat was presented by Clerk Owens for approval, WHEREUPON,  on motion of Commr. Babb seconded by Commr. Dykes and carried, the Re-Plat of Woodland Park in Section 15-19-24 was approved.

Commr. Babb filed check No. 272 in amount of $400.00 from the Ploeger Co. Inc., Darien, Georgia for road material (asphalt)

Motion by Commr. Simpson seconded by Commr. Babb and carried, that the request of Sheriff McCall for permission to transfer $300.00 from his Radio Account to his Investigations Accounts be granted.

piling in dead river

Commr. Dykes reported that someone called him and asked if he could have the timers that came off of the old bridge in Dead River. The Board instructed Commr. Dykes to notify the gentleman the Board does not wish the piling removed.

furniture for agricultural building

Clerk Owens informed the Board cannot advertise for the furniture now as the Architect has not submitted the specifications.  The Board now agreed to take bids on November 6th or 13th, 1961.

salary for chas. p. goodson

Motion by Commr. Babb seconded by Commr. Dykes and carried, that Clerk Owens be instructed to issue warrant to Chas. P. Goodson for a full month’s salary for the month of September, as he did not take a vacation any time during his employment as County Engineer for Lake County.

report of sam cook of hunnicutt & associates on properties he was instructed to re-check

 

#275 – Umatilla Fruit Company

            Recommend that the building value be reduced from $32,000.00 to $21,500.00

            That changes be made in the personal property which is assessed at $14,500.00

#225 – Hodges Equipment Company

            Recommend that the assessment be reduced from $80,000 to $65,800.00

#148 – John T. Robertson

            Recommend that the assessment be reduced from $14,000.00 to $13,500

#80 -    Julia H. Konerman

            Recommend that no change be made.  Assessment $39,700.00

The recommendations as submitted by Sam Cook of Hunnicutt & Associates as set forth above were approved by the Board.

All of the complaints re:  the assessed valuations being viewed and acted upon by the Equalization Board as set forth on pages 460-462.   Motion was made by Commr. Simpson seconded by Commr. Cowart and unanimously carried, that the Assessment Roll as submitted by R. G. Cassady, Tax Assessor, be approved with the changes as made by the Equalization Board.
