MINUTES OF special MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

 december 18, 1963

The Board of County Commissioners met in special session on Wednesday, December 18, 1963, at 2:00 p.m. in the Small Claims Office in the Courthouse at Tavares for the purpose of endorsing locations in Orange and Seminole Counties for the construction of a new proposed state university.

The following members and interested parties were present:  Chairman Dykes; Commrs. Theus, Cowart, Livingston, and Babb; Clerk Owens; Attorney Duncan; George W. Daugherty; and W. A. (Bill) Reedy.

The meeting was called to order by the Chairman.

After hearing remarks by Mr. Daugherty and Mr. Reedy with reference to a new site offered by Orange County to the Board of Control, on a motion by Commr. Babb, seconded by Commr. Livingston and carried, the following resolution was adopted:

WHEREAS, THE Board of County Commissioners of Lake County have been advised that Orange County, by and through its Board of County Commissioners, has tendered to the State of Florida, as a site for the location of an advanced Engineering School, a tract of land bordering Lake County, which is accessible over State Road S-433 in Lake County and connecting with State Road 46, and

WHEREAS, the location of the School on said tract will result in great benefits to Lake, Orange, and Seminole Counties,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Lake County, Florida, that this Board express its interest in the location of said school on the tract of land tendered by Orange County and adjoining Lake County in the area of the location of State Road S-433; that this Board pledge its support in the zoning of properties in Lake County near said area to such classifications as may be requested by the School Authorities, and cooperate with Orange County and Seminole County in the location and construction of access roads as shall appear to be for the best interest of said School.

Chairman Dykes filed a letter to him from the Board of Control regarding the locations still under consideration for the location of the proposed university.
