TUESDAY – june 13, 1967

The Board of County Commissioners met in special session in the Commissioners’ Room in the Courthouse, in Tavares, Florida on Tuesday, June 13, 1967, at 9:00 o’clock A.M. to consider budget requests for the 1967-68 Fiscal Year and any other business which might be brought before the Board.  The Chairman called the meeting to order with the following present:  Chairman Dykes, Commrs. Theus, Cowart and Babb. Others present were Clerk Owens and Doris Babb, Finance Officer.  Commr. Livingston was absent due to illness.

engineering department

On motion of Commr. Babb seconded by Commr. Theus and carried, the Engineering Department was authorized and instructed to prepare and furnish County maps, showing election precincts, to the Supervisor of Elections without cost.


On motion of Commr. Theus seconded by Commr. Cowart and carried, the Clerk was instructed to notify the Court Reporter, Alan H. Hamlin, that in accordance with opinion from the Attorney General’s Office, the Board will not pay any expenses incurred by his office for administrative supplies, telephone, etc., and to request the return of four (4) typewriters purchased by the Board within thirty days (30), Inventory numbers #585, #3980, #2864, and #3571.

Motion was made by Commr. Theus seconded by Commr. Babb and carried, that the Attorney prepare permissive act creating a Juvenile Judge for Lake County with an annual salary of $8,500.00.


On recommendation of the Engineer and on motion of Commr. Theus seconded by Commr. Cowart and carried, the bid submitted by Basic Asphalt Corp. for leveling and surfacing the streets in Sylvan Shores Subdivision was accepted as the lowest and best bid.

soil survey

Supplement amending the effective dates of soil survey agreement with the Soil Conservation Service, to cover period July 1, 1967 to September 30, 1967, was approved and the Chairman and Clerk were authorized to execute same.

accounts allowed

On motion of Commr. Theus seconded by Commr. Cowart and carried, reimbursement to the Sheriff was approved in the amount of $10.00, for Sheriff Department’s check #8699 deposited to the Fine and Forfeiture Fund on December 19, 1965.
