MONDAY – june 17, 1969

A special meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of Lake County, Florida, was held in the County Commissioners’ Room in the Courthouse, Tavares, Florida, on Tuesday, June 17, 1969, at 1:00 o’clock P.M. for the purpose of discussing budget requests with department heads who were not heard on June 10, 1969, and any other business which may be brought before the Board.

The meeting was called to order by the Chairman with the following members present:  Thomas J. Windram, Chairman; James R. Carson, Jr., Alex J. Macdonell, J. M. Hoskinson and Kenneth VanAuken.  Also present were County Attorney C. E. Duncan, Clerk of Circuit Court Frank E. Owens, and Deputy Clerk Doris Babb.

On motion of Commissioner Macdonell seconded by Commissioner Hoskinson and unanimously carried, Bonds for Carrying Firearms were approved for the following:

                        W. A. Milton, Jr.

                        L. R. Hufstetler, Jr.

                        Jacquelyn Hester



Clerk Owens advised the bid accepted for Workmen’s Compensation on June 9, 1969 from Durrance Insurance, Inc. does not meet the specifications as to the financial rating of the insurance company.  After reviewing the Best’s Guide, the action of the Board on June 9, 1969 pertaining to bid for Workmen’s Compensation Insurance was rescinded on motion of Commissioner Carson seconded by Commissioner Macdonell and unanimously carried.  Commissioner VanAuken moved the acceptance of bid of Durrance Insurance, Inc. with the Traveler’s Insurance Company at an estimated annual premium of $12,456.00.  The motion was seconded by Commissioner Hoskinson and unanimously carried.  In view of the fact that First National Insurance Agency, Inc. submitted an identical bid through Travelers Insurance Company, it was the Board’s recommendation that the commission from the policy be divided between Durrance Insurance, Inc. and the First National Insurance Agency, Inc.

Request from Mary Hamner for vacation leave the first two weeks in July was approved.

The meeting recessed to June 19, 1969 at 1:00 o’clock P.M. to complete the budget hearings.
