MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

SEPTEMBER 28, 1973

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners convened in special session in the Commissioners’ Room, Courthouse Tavares, Florida, on Friday, September 28, 1973, at four o’clock in the afternoon for the purpose of considering ways to raise the necessary funds to comply with the order from the Department of Administration increasing the Sheriff’s budget.

The Chairman called the meeting to order with the following members present:  C. A. Deems, Chairman; James R. Carson, Jr., J. M. Hoskinson; Thomas J. Windram and Glenn C.  Burhans.  Others present were:  James C. Watkins, Clerk; David Cauthen, representing the County Attorney; Doris Babb, Finance Officer; and Norma Coven, Deputy Clerk.

Commr. Carson read the Order calling for an increase of $81,528.00 in the Sheriff’s budget in order to provide two (2) additional deputy positions and four (4) additional jailer positions plus related costs, and for pay increases, making the total 73/74 budget $967,345.

Commr. Carson said it will be necessary to increase the millage .1620 mill in order to raise the money from taxes and feel we should re-advertise the budget if millage increase is necessary.

Mrs. Babb advised it is only necessary to re-advertise the Fine and Forfeiture Fund.  Commr. Carson moved that the Fine and Forfeiture Fund be re-advertised for October 12 at 4 p.m. showing an increase of .1620 mill in order to comply with the Order from the Department of Administration.  The motion was seconded by Commr. Windram and carried unanimously.

There being no further business to bring before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 4:15 o’clock p.m.
