A special MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

OCTOBER 30, 1974

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners convened in special session on October 30, 1974 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fourth Floor Courtroom, Courthouse, Tavares, Florida, to open bids for County Insurance and two motor vehicles for the Building and Planning Department.   Members present were: James R. Carson, Jr., Chairman, C. A. Deems, Thomas J. Windram, J. M. Hoskinson, and Glenn C. Burhans.  Others present were:  James C. Hunter, Chief Deputy Clerk; Christopher C. Ford, County Attorney; Evan Porter, Deputy Clerk and Andrea Gambrell, Deputy Clerk.

The Invocation was given Evan Porter, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by James R. Carson, Jr.

Mr. James C. Hunter, Deputy Clerk, stated that proper proof of publication had been received and is on file.  The Chairman instructed Mr. Hunter to open the sealed bids.  They are as follows:

Commr. Carson stated that the advertised bids for the two motor vehicles for the Building Department would now be opened.  Mr. James Hunter stated that proper proof of publication had been received and was on file.  The bids were as follows:

On a motion by Commr. Windram seconded by Commr. Hoskinson and carried unanimously, the bids for the motor vehicles were referred to the Building Official to check for specifications and report back to the Board with his recommendation on November 5, 1974.

On a motion by Commr. Burhans seconded by Commr. Hoskinson and carried unanimously, the Insurance Bids were referred to the County Attorney and the Clerk to check the specifications and report back to the Board with a recommendation at 11:45 A.M.

The Chairman announced that the Board would adjourn until 11:45 A.M.

At 11:45 A.M. the Clerk and Attorney presented the following recommendations to the Board:

On a motion by Commr. Deems seconded by Commr. Burhans and carried unanimously, the County Insurance was awarded to the above listed agents being the best and lowest bidders meeting County specifications.

Commr. Windram brought to the attention of the Board that the County Contract with Lennon’s Ambulance Service will expire in the very near future. Commr. Windram suggested that the County extend the contract with Lennon’s on a month-to-month basis until the operational problem of their service can be resolved.  On a motion by Commr. Windram seconded by Commr. Hoskinson and carried unanimously, the Board extended its contract with Lennon’s Ambulance Service on a month-to-month (30 day) basis, that either party may terminate the contract upon a 30 day notice, their 1974-1975 budgetary funds will become effective November 1, 1974.

Mr. Ford, County Attorney, presented to the Board a Resolution which, if adopted, would make Lake County eligible to receive Local Planning Assistance Funds under the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development’s fiscal year beginning July 1, 1975.

On a motion by Comr. Hoskinson seconded by Commr. Deems and carried unanimously, the Board adopted the above Resolution as presented by the County Attorney.

elections – general and primary

Commr. Carson stated that he would be unable to serve on the Canvassing Board for the General Elections on November 6, 1974, due to the fact that he would be out of the country.  He therefor appointed Commr. C. A. Deems to serve on this Board in his place.

There being no further business to be brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 12:15 p.m.
