The Lake County Board of County Commissioners convened in special session on Tuesday, July 29, 1975, at 9:00 p.m., in the Commissioners’ Room, Courthouse, Tavares, Florida.  Present were:  J. M. Hoskinson, Chairman; Thomas J. Windram; C.A. Deems; Glenn C. Burhans; and James R. Carson, Jr.  Others present were: James C. Watkins, Clerk; Doris Babb, Deputy in Charge of the Finance Department; and Pat Halstead, Deputy Clerk.

tax levy

A letter from Donald E. Stephens, Property Appraiser, enclosing the certified millage rates for the 1975 taxable year was presented to the Board.  Also, the taxable value for 1975 was presented.


On a motion by Commr. Burhans, seconded by Commr. Deems and carried unanimously, the Board approved travel for Emogene Stegall, Supervisor of Elections, to attend the State Meeting in Fort Lauderdale on August 5-9, 1975.

sheriff or budgets

On a motion by Commr. Carson, seconded by Commr. Burhans and carried, the Board adopted that portion of the budget dealing with the Sheriff’s Department as modified by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners to date.  Commr. Hoskinson voted “no.”

The Clerk was instructed to present to the Sheriff a copy of the budget for the 1975-1976 fiscal year prior to August 1, 1975 as required by law.

budget or landfill

On a motion by Commr. Deems, seconded by Commr. Carson and carried unanimously, the Board approved the amended budget for Local Landfill, transferring $2,500.00 from Contract Services to Equipment item for submission to the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services for their approval.

There being no further business to be brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
