A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MARCH 8, 1976

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners convened in Special Session on Monday, March 8, 1976, at 9:30 a.m., in the Board of County Commissioners’ Room, Courthouse, Tavares, Florida, to discuss the priorities for the Five Year Road Program.  Present were:  Thomas J. Windram, Chairman; C.A. Deems; J. M. Hoskinson, James R. Carson, Jr.; and Glenn C. Burhans.  Others present were: Christopher C. Ford, County Attorney; and Andrea Gambrell, Deputy Clerk.

The Invocation was given by James R. Carson, Jr., and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Glenn C. Burhans.

Mr. Bill Sweet appeared before the Board regarding County Road 5-5942 which handled a good deal of traffic, yet was unpaved and the location of a Stop sign on a County Road in favor of a Subdivision leading onto the County Road.  He also mentioned the problem the residents were experiencing involving speeders using this County Road as a racing strip.

The Board stated that it would have its Public Works Department conduct a traffic study and check the location of the Stop sign.

On a motion by Commr. Burhans seconded by Commr. Hoskinson and carried unanimously, the Board requested the Clerk to write to the Sheriff’s Department informing him of the problems that have been brought to the Board’s attention in this area.

ACCOUNTS ALLOWED

On a motion by Commr. Burhans seconded by Commr. Hoskinson and carried unanimously, the Board approved the installation of a goose neck extension to the microphone located in front of the podium in the Board of County Commissioners Room.

Mr. Michael Donoghue, County Engineer, appeared before the Board to discuss and establish the priorities in Lake County for the Five Year Road Program.

The Board discussed that according to the requests submitted by the various municipalities there were no changes from those that had been submitted in the past few years.

On a motion by Commr. Deems seconded by Commr. Hoskinson and carried unanimously, the Board directed the County Engineer to submit the same roads along with their established priority as was submitted one year ago with the exception of those projects to which have been completed.

The Board requested Mr. Donoghue present to the Board on Tuesday, March 16, 1976, the final Five Year Road Program of Lake County for formal adoption by the Board.

There being no further business to be brought before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
