A BUDGET WORKSHOP OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
JUNE 4, 1981
The Lake County Board of County Commissioners met in Special Session on Thursday, June 4, 1981, at 1:lO P.M. in the Board of County Commissioners' Meeting Room, Courthouse, Tavares, Florida. Commissioners present were: Glenn C. Burhans, Chairman: Thomas J. Windram; Claude Smoak; James R. Carson, Jr.; and C. A. "Lex" Deems. Others present were: James C. Watkins, Clerk; Don Smalt, Executive Assistant to the Clerk; and Mary Grover.
BUDGETS
Mr. Don Smalt, Executive Assistant to the Clerk presented a worksheet which compared the 1980-81 Budget with the 1981-82 Request for the General Revenue, Fine & Forfeiture, and County Transportation Trust Funds. He further listed the overall budget request totals which excluded CETA. Mr. Smalt stated the Property Appraiser's estimate of Certification would be presented to the Board around the third week of July or the first week in August. He also stated that all budget requests are in except for CETA and the Northwest Ambulance Service. The second sheet listed the estimated Revenues and the third sheet listed each fund separately with the 1980-81 Budget and the 1981-82 Request and the difference and percentage between the two. It was noted the increase in the budget was basically the increase in the Sheriff's Budget and about $1/2 million in proposed salaries.
SHERIFF/BUDGETS
At this time the Board discussed the Sheriff's Budget. Commr . Smoak suggested the Board obtain information from the Florida Department of Criminal Law Enforcement as to where Lake County stands in terms of per capita crimes committed, per capita crimes solved, and how Lake County compares with similar counties regarding law enforcement. The Board directed the Clerk to obtain any information that would be helpful in discussing the Sheriff's budget request. The Board postponed further discussion of the Sheriff's Budget Until another budget workshop.
